A Blessing for the Winter Solstice 2025
As the day gets shorter and the night gets longer, let us pause together at this sacred time of year.
Darkness comes.
A darkness that invites depth.
A darkness that invites
slow
steps
forward.
***
Darkness comes.
A darkness that invites
an ancient wisdom
a deeper knowing,
a profound
trust
***
Darkness comes.
A darkness that invites
doors to be reached
and handles
to be
turned.
***
Darkness comes
and beyond the door of darkness
there
is
Light.
Dearest one,
It is the week of the Winter Solstice here in the Southern Hemisphere.
It is a time
when the days
are getting shorter,
and shorter.
It is a time
when the darkness
is getting longer,
and longer.
It is a time when
the sun “stands still,”
or so it seems,
and then,
once it has stood still
it will turn
and shine
once again
So what does the Winter Solstice offer?
What does the darkness represent?
What does it mean to go inward?
The Winter Solstice
gifts Quietness,
and through Quietness
it gifts Stillness,
and through Stillness
it gifts Solitude.
The Winter Solstice
gifts Time,
and through Time
it gifts Expansion,
and through Expansion
it gifts Stillness.
The Winter Solstice
gifts Darkness,
and through Darkness
it invites Truth,
and through Truth
it invites Integrity.
The Winter Solstice
gifts Change
and through Change
it invites Old Narratives
and through Old Narratives
it invites New Possibilities.
The Winter Solstice
gifts Connection
and through Connection
it invites Understanding
and through Understanding
it invites a New Way.
The Winter Solstice
gifts Cycles
and through Cycles
it gifts Impermanence,
and through Impermanence
it gifts Life
The Winter Solstice
gifts Life
and through Life
it gifts Death
and through Death
it gifts
Rebirth.
A Winter Solstice Blessing.
During this time
of the Winter Solstice
may you be gifted
by the warmth of your own inner fire
by the warmth of external hearths
by the warmth of deeper conversations.
And as the leaves fall
and the nights becomes darker,
may your vulnerability be held
and soothed
and warmed.
May this Winter Solstice
invite an Exquisiteness -
an Exquisiteness in the Depth of the Darkness
and the Stillness of the Night,
an Exquisiteness
that holds your heart,
like a breath
that has breathed something sacred,
something magical,
and in that sacredness,
that magic
may you feel the greatest gift
a gift from Earth
Sea
and Sky,
the gift of a Promise…
A Promise
that when we step
beyond the darkest threshold
there will
always
be
Light.
Some thoughts to ponder:
What does the darkness represent for you? Are you afraid of it? Can you sit comfortably in it?
What does death mean to you?
How can you acknowledge the little deaths in your life at this moment of the Winter Solstice?
How can you honour the light as it turns on the morning of the Solstice?
To my dear friends
Blessings of the Winter Solstice (21 June) to you,
and if you live in the Northern Hemisphere
Blessings of the Summer Solstice to you.
Until we meet again,
Blessed be.
Sometimes support is needed as you go inward, as you listen to the old narratives and choose to change them. Do reach out. I weave earth based wisdom into self healing and simple living, and would be honoured to walk with you in your inner darkness as you walk towards your own inner light.
Soft Simple Still is where I write words of healing for you to ponder and contemplate,
Meditations with Sam is where I post weekly meditations for you to listen to.
All of these offerings are free.
Your financial patronage honours my time, my energy, my gifts.
LOVE THIS SAM!!! Yes, the darkness, stillness, and the quiet. The fading, waning and the death. Then the sun takes in an exhale, the light returns, rebirth has begun.
I particularly loved the section on the gifts of the Winter Solstice, so many sacred gifts! A powerful reminder to give ourselves to the darkness. For in the dark, all that we truly long for can be found.
Love to you Sam on the other side of the world celebrating this sacred time. The invitation to pause and to see what finds you there in the dark. How wonderful to have so much to explore. Blessings to you.
