Can we be slow in a world that is busy?
Can we be still in a society that never stops?
Can we pause when the day,
not yet begun,
is already full
Full
Full
Full
My dear friend,
How are you today?
I am revisiting a letter that I wrote to you late last year…
revisiting it for me,
and maybe for you too.
I have changed it a little bit,
so if you have read this before,
I wonder what it means to you today,
right now
with the subtle changes I have made…
My dear friend,
I am sending it out to you this eve because on Friday nights I hold my Woman's Meditation Group,
and well,
this evening
I would like to energetically open this group for YOU TOO.
My Friday night group is called F.O.L.K.Sâ„¢
Friday night Our Lives Konnect Spiritually.
Would you like to imagine that you are joining me for a mindful meditation this eve?
Would you like to imagine that you are connecting to like minded folk who connect deeply wholesomely profoundly?
Would you like to imagine that you are taking this moment to connect
to yourself,
to your heart,
to your soul?
My friend,
do you need
at times
to be reminded,
or invited,
to step beyond the threshold of Do-ing
to arrive in the Land of Be-ing?
To be reminded,
or invited,
to pause and sip your tea,
while gently gazing
into the Land of Hopes and Dreams?
To be reminded,
or invited,
to simply look up from your computer screen
and look outside your window pane.
To be reminded,
or invited,
to see the colours change
as light and shadows
dance and play.
To be reminded,
or invited
to see the liminal thresholds
and be invited
or reminded
to perhaps
cross over…
We are busy people.
So busy at times
that sometimes we forget
to breathe out.
So busy
that sometimes we forget
to listen -
especially to the way we talk
about ourselves
and to ourselves.
So busy
that sometimes we forget
to do something special
for ourselves,
because,
well
we are just too busy
too tired
too
empty.
Sometimes we go through the day
and we forget about our own needs,
our own simple
essential
needs
and then when we do listen to them,
we are filled in ways that nourish us
that deeply heal us
that deeply
deeply
sustain us.
My dear friend,
I invite you to join me for F.O.L.K.S ™ this eve…
I invite you to imagine
that we are together in my living room.
I invite you to imagine
that you have taken off your shoes
and that perhaps
you have put on your favourite cosy socks,
or perhaps
your toes are happily feeling my soft
soft carpet.
I invite you to imagine
that this evening
you are sitting on my lounge,
and that you are putting your feet up
curling up
or even stretching out
if you wish.
I invite you to imagine
that I have poured you your favourite herb tea
and put it on a little wooden table beside you,
I invite you to imagine
that I have made you a hot piece of toast
and placed your favourite topping on it.
There is a soft rug, my friend.
Feel free to use it.
Place it over your feet,
over your shoulders
over your knees.
Just sit my friend.
Just sit
on my lounge
at this moment in time.
And as you sit on my lounge,
I invite you to imagine that where you are sitting
you can see outside onto my balcony.
Imagine you can see
all my flower pots in the Autumnal evening light
I have lavender growing
and geraniums flowering,
I have rosemary in a pot
and marjoram thriving.
I have mint and ginger,
turmeric and basil.
I have a magnolia tree
and a peace lily in bloom,
I have lemons on my lemon tree
and my first orange growing.
I have a rambling garden
on my balcony
happily growing
happily thriving.
My dear friend,
Can you imagine it?
Can you see it in your minds eye,
and maybe feel it in your inner senses?
Can you see all the beautiful colours,
merging
reflecting
and bouncing off each other?
Can you see the different shades of green?
Maybe you notice that the green of rosemary is different to the green of marjoram?
That the green of the geranium leaves is different to the green of the magnolia leaves?
And then my friend,
when the dusk light shines upon them
and offers up its final rays for the day,
can you notice the subtle changes
in the greens
in the colours
in the shades and shadows?
I wonder my friend,
can you imagine hearing the different sounds
that come from my balcony?
Maybe you might hear the leaves rustle
as the night air begins to blow upon them,
Maybe you might hear the Ravens cawing
or the Magpies singing their song to end the day,
You might hear the Currawongs sharing
or the Kookaburras laughing,
You may hear little birds splashing
for the bird bath is near,
You might hear
the bats fly
or the possums feeding.
Sometimes my friend,
there is no sound.
No sound
other than the breeze.
And sometimes the breeze
blows gently
softly,
like a simple sweet song
a lullaby,
a night song
to gently put you to sleep.
Sometimes though
the wind sings another song.
A passionate song from an orchestra,
that begins
oh so softly.
so gently.
so calmly.
And then it gets subtly louder
and louder,
just loud enough though
that you begin to feel it in your bones,
just loud enough though
that you feel it rise up inside of you,
just loud enough though
that you know it will soon
peak
peak
peak…
and
become
wild and passionate,
loud and intense,
hopeful and empowering,
freeing and cleansing,
rustling and breathless
and…
and
and
And then,
when the body feels that it maybe be just too much
and too...
whatever,
The wind slows
and quietens
and
and
and
stops.
And it gently waits,
like the musicians in an orchestra
who have played the most extraordinary piece,
They wait,
until the last note falls upon them
and then
they release their breath
and
they look around,
and
they come back
as though from a different world,
and
maybe they were
and maybe
we
were.
And ever so silently
they leave the stage
As the wind
has left the balcony
And perhaps
for this moment in time
there is nothing else there
except the green upon the flowers pots
and you
and me
upon the lounge.
My dear friend,
What would SLOWING DOWN look like for you at this moment in time?
What would pausing feel like for your heart, for your soul?
What song would the wind sing you this evening? And then when it stopped what would the silence be like for you? What would you feel? What would you now know?
I would love to hear your thoughts about slowing down in a busy world.
I would love to hear what this piece meant to you today.
And I would love to hear what you felt as you invited the pause to come in…
Until Sunday,
When your weekly meditation podcast lands in your inbox
I wish you a lovely Friday evening.
Blessed be,
