It is time to shift the narrative...
Post #1 The Narrative of Needing to Constantly Do. Simple moments in time that help heal this narrative.
It really is soft, isn't it?
The flowers
The leaves.
The space.
The petals.
The pollen.
The space.
The softness
The subtleness
The space.
Dearest one,
Sometimes we miss that one moment in time
Sometimes we miss the light
the colour
the space.
Sometimes we miss the aroma
the texture
the essence…
And,
so often we catch it too.
We catch that moment in time
when the light
the colour
the experience
changes our lives
in ways we know will never be the same again.
Have you ever experienced moments like that?
Have you have turned left or right,
looked up or down
paused
and then begun again?
Those moments in time
when you may have listened deeper
or talked slower,
when you may have looked up
and stepped back.
It’s these moments in time
when life seems to stop
and then go again
as though you stepped over a threshold
and to turn back is
well…
not possible
Sometimes I get caught in the mindlessness of life
then I do something that makes me go
“OH!”
and that “OH’ changes the course of my day.
Lately it happens when I look out my window.
We are blessed to have a view of the ocean
and when I stop and look out,
REALLY
TRULY
look out
I see something that I would have missed
if I didn’t consciously look.
And it also happens when I look out the kitchen window.
I look out
and up
I see the sky
the clouds
the birds
and I FEEL
deeply feel the change in the air
it is as though the weather patterns speak to me
the birds on the wire move for me
the energy changes for me
because I stopped to notice.
Let us pause together for a moment
and change the narrative of
NEEDING ALWAYS TO DO….
Oh yes,
Sometimes life feels as though we are constantly chasing our tails
tasks never end
the to do list continues
our desk is overflowing
Today,
let us curl up instead
let us lay in our basket
let us curl our tail around ourselves
and
let us rest a while.
****
Sometimes life feels as though life has zapped all our reserves
we have nothing left to give,
nothing left to offer
nothing else to say.
Today,
let us sit quietly
and sip a soothing broth
let us imagine we are curled up on our favourite chair
let us imagine that we are sitting in front of a warm glowing hearth.
(Or maybe you really are so!)
****
Sometimes
life demands more of us than we are able to give
the baby keeps crying
the sickness takes over
the noise of society gets louder
and louder.
Today,
let us listen to something exquisite,
something enchanting
something soothing.
****
Sometimes in life
our nervous system needs regulating
we have taken on too much -
the demands
the requests
are getting too heavy
Today,
let us step outside
let us feel the earth under our feet
and see the sky above our heads.
Today let us step outside.
****
Sometimes in life
the anxieties stop us from sleeping,
our mind ticks over
the worries get bigger.
Today,
let us take our faviourite book to bed
and fall happily into its pages.
****
Sometimes in life
the stresses live in our jaw
grinding
clenching
holding.
Today,
let us take deep yawns
let us sing loudly
let us laugh harder.
****
Sometimes in life
we feel as though we are “too busy”
to listen to our own needs
Today,
let us pause
and ask ourselves
“What does my heart need most at this moment in time?”
”What can I do for you, my dear self, so you can feel heard and safe and held?”
”How can I support you, so that you can begin again in a different way?
My dear friend,
What do you need to do today to soothe yourself
to calm and hold yourself?
What do you need to do today
to stop the doing
so that your nervous system feels regulated, soothed and held?
I invite you to re-look at the picture
Let us imagine that we are laying on our belly looking at the flowers
Let us imagine that we can smell the flowers
and touch the leaves.
Let us imagine that we can see the space beyond the petals
the space beyond the leaves
the space beyond the sky.
Let us imagine that we can see
the sky above us from our position on our belly
seeing the softness of the blue
breathing the freshness of the air.
Let us imagine
the space growing around us
like the space in this picture.
Let us imagine this space
is filling our body,
and from our body
let there be space
in our emotions,
and from our emotions
let there be space
in our mind,
and from our mind
let there be space
in our spirit,
and from our spirit
let there be space
in ALL the places within us,
and from ALL the places within us
let there be space in all the things
that invite us to expand
our music
our creativity
our cooking
our gardening
our writing
our tea drinking
our nature walking
our star gazing
our movement
our songs
our yoga
our massages
our smiles
our horizons
our books
our needle craft
and from all the things that invite us to expand
our ordinary
day to day things,
may we know there is such extraordinary beauty
in the ordinary
and may the extraordinary beauty
in the ordinary
help us shift the narrative
that we
must always DO.
Thing to consider:
What do you innately do that takes you from the Doing to the Being?
What do you passionately love to do, that expands your heart so much, that when you go back to the Doing, you are filled with so much life-force that you are able to “cope better”?
What can you do today to change the narrative that you must Do More to Succeed?
Until we meet again,
Blessed be.

I love this, Sam! Finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. In the simple mundane aspects of living. Simply by paying attention to the pauses, the light, textures, subtle movements... I don't have to wait till I get it all done or complete an item on my list. I can do this in any moment. And there it is... Self-Care. Self-Love. Self-Compassion. Sam, I love how you keep reminding us, bringing us back to what matters. Thank you, dear friend, for your gifts! 💜
