It is here.
It is there.
It is all around us.
It is part of what makes us who we are.
It is behind us
It is in front of us
It is here now with us.
Sometimes we appreciate it
Sometimes we ignore it
And sometimes,
we wish
we had more of it…
Time.
Dearest One,
Thank you for sitting with me last week.
Oh how divine that was…to pause together and let the green of the leaves and the sound of the breeze come over us. You can re-read that experience again here if you wish.
Time paused then, didn’t it?
It was there around us
and yet,
when we sat there together last week
time slowed.
It paused.
It even seemed to stop.
It invited us to take slower breaths,
It invited us to take mindful moments,
It invited us,
and welcomed us
to step beyond the threshold of Ordinary Time
into the Land of Another Time,
And we did
And when we came back,
Life,
was so Extra-Ordinary
My dear friend,
Would you like to walk with me today
Where the ocean meets the shore
Where the waves meet the sand
And the water meets the land?
Would you like to walk with me today
Where two thresholds meet -
The Land and the Sea
And the Sea and the Sky?
Would you like to walk with me today?
I invite you to imagine that we are walking together.
Step by step
we walk upon the sand
Step by step
we feel the sand beneath our feet.
I invite you to imagine you can see the colours of dawn in the sky above
The night has said goodbye for now
And the colours of a new day peep gently through the clouds
Colours of blue and pink
Colours of orange and yellow,
Colours of softness and stillness
Colours of of gentleness and hope.
Step by step
you walk upon the sand
Step by step
you feel the sand under your feet.
And then my dear friend,
you reach that place
Where the soft sand begins to change
Slightly harder
Slightly darker
You feel the subtle changes under you feet.
Step by step
you walk closer to the shore
Step by step
you feel the coolness of the shore
Listen.
Can you hear it?
The waves of the water
Way out to sea.
Listen
can you hear?
Waves slowly coming
Waves coming near.
Listen
can you hear?
And then my dear friend,
can you Feel it too?
refreshing
caressing
embracing…
And then the waves
crash slightly higher
splashing your clothes
Maybe you lift your hem
Maybe you let it fall
Maybe you laugh
Maybe you giggle
Maybe you were taken by surprise.
Can you Feel it though, my friend -
The sand, the waves
the Threshold?
And then my friend,
if you slowly looked beyond
Way out to sea
Can you see the sky?
And can you see where the Sea and Sky meet?
Can you imagine, the colours of dawn on this beautiful beautiful morn?
The colours in the sky
The colours in the clouds
The colours upon the waves
Imagine the glistening, my friend
The sparkling
The twinkling
Imagine the colours subtly changing, my friend,
no longer night time
and not yet day
Soft colours
Gentle colours
Secret magical colours
Another threshold,
where your vision looks out.
Where the Sky and Sea meet
Another threshold to look out.
And if you imagined that you were standing
where the Ocean meets the Shore
looking out to where the Sea meets the Sky
What else would you see?
What else would you hear?
Maybe birds flying,
Or dolphins swimming.
Maybe whales breaching
Or ships sailing;
Maybe mermaids playing
Or Sea-sprites dancing
Maybe seaweed floating
Or conche shells sounding
Or maybe you would see something else, my dear friend,
Just for your eyes
Just for your ears.
Healing sounds
Healing sights
Healing moments.
Maybe time slow around you my dear friend,
Maybe time pause
Maybe it even stops
Maybe it morphs
Maybe it changes.
Time.
And when you look up again
after however long it was
You will see me
And I will see you
And together we will see
the Earth
and Sea
and Sky.
And Until we meet again
Blessed be.
My dear friend,
What does Time mean for you?
How do you “slow down time” in your own life?
What was it like to stand at the Thresholds - where the Ocean meets the Shore and then to look out at the horizon where the Sea and Sky meet - What was that like for you?
I would love to hear what this mindful meditation meant for you and what these questions prompted in you. In honour of your journey.
This time of year is very busy.
I would love to create conscious moments in your day/week
where you can stop and allow time to be still
And where for that moment in time,
Time does change
and slows
and stops.
Over the next few weeks,
I will be offering more posts like this -
Where you will be invited to step over different thresholds
to arrive in places of stillness and beauty
Maybe I will call it
“Still moments in time” (what do you think?!)
I do hope you and your loves ones will join me .
So beautiful, Sam! Thank you for taking me to the ocean with you. It reminds me of two things...one is the idea of an ecotone, a place where two biological communities meet, like a shoreline. I like to think of bodies (including human bodies) as ecotones too. Every cell within us is an ocean meeting another ocean. And we are teeming with microbes. So, my biological community is always meeting the biological community of everything I come into contact with. The second thing is that I once asked Water to tell me about the cycle of time and the answer I got was that Time is the perpetual return to Source. I just loved that and have never looked at Time the same way since.
Ohhh I loved this Sam. I felt right there with you at the ocean. I actually crave the ocean. It is a roughly an hour and half drive from my home. A must go, as often as I can. These thresholds you shared here in your writing are so palpable in my being. I feel the liminal at the ocean. It teaches me to see the liminal in the other areas of my life that are not physical. The blending, as the colors in the sky. Edges touching as the waves and the shore. Interactions as the pelicans dive into the sea.
