5 things I do to calm my nervous system
Hello dear one,
Do you ever feel that life is overwhelmingly NOISY
That life is overwhelmingly LOUD?
Do you ever feel that life
is sometimes on a different frequency to you
and like a radio that needs to be tuned,
you feel that at times no matter which way you turn the knob you can still hear the static,
the noise,
the incoherent words?
A noisy life
is a very different life to a life with sound.
For me a noisy life is a life of constant stress and anxiety
It is a life of inner turmoil and confusion
A life of angst and pain
A life of feeling stretched to the limit and trying to do everything all at once
It is a life of agitation
A life of annoyance
A life of feeling stuck
It is a life when the world at large feels so overwhelming
When so many factors that are out there
come in here,
in my ears, in my senses, in my energy
and no matter how much I wish to hide in a quiet corner
I am front and center in it
until it is over.
Do you ever feel that way as well?
Do you ever see the noise as a colour
or a feeling?
Sometimes for me, when the Noise of life or people or situations gets too much,
it feels as though someone/something has consciously/unconsciously poured a tank full of oil into my calm ocean
or dumped rubbish in my inner garden,
or stunned me with a taser gun when all I was doing was slowly eating breakfast.
I feel that life gets distorted because of the Noise.
A Noisy life like this makes me discombobulated
I feel as though I am standing in the middle of a rock concert that is out of tune
or trying to sit in a once quiet cafe and all I can hear is blasting sounds from someones phone.
And all I want to ask is WHY!?!
Do you ever feel like that?
Has that ever happen to you?
Here are 5 things that I have done to help me find calmness and peace when the Noise becomes too loud…
I step outside in nature and consciously look at the veins on the mint, the spider that is spinning the web, the tiny buds that are growing, the changes in the leaves that have fallen. I consciously NOTICE NATURE and sometimes I even name to myself what it is I am looking at, as though I am a new person seeing this incredibly minute, detailed, exquisite thing for the very first time
I step away from my phone and computer and put them in another room. I turn them off. I unplug them. And in doing so I unplug myself.
I go into my room and read a book and fall into another time and space. Another world. Most times I already know the characters. They are old friends. They are dear to my heart and even though I know their story I still enjoy falling into the black and white typed letters on the page. Imagining. Dreaming. Falling freely into the authors embrace.
I cook. I look in the fridge and I see what I can cook for my family and I consciously prepare a wholesome delicious meal. I chop and dice and slice. I use herbs and spices. I fill the kitchen and the house with aromas that are tantilising and delicious. I fill my heart with love and pour it in to my cooking.
I lay on my bed and close my eyes and give myself a healing or do a meditation. Sometimes I just go to bed early and curl up with a hot water bottle and snuggle down.
What do you do when the noise of life becomes too much, my dear friend, what do you do?
If you would like me to hold space for you,
that quiet gentle space
A space where you can breathe out and talk about how it feels to be spattered and bombarded
a space where you can be held and feel safe
Do reach out.

I do all of these... and... working in the garden helps too.
Putting on soft music and gently dancing to it.
Sitting in the dark with candles lit.
Creating mandalas.
Standing in front of my altar and doing something I call truth speak. Which is speaking out loud, slowly and with intention what is moving in me.

Thanks Sam - just writing this calmed my nervous system, which is saying something cause I just found out minutes ago Trump won the election.
Your ways to calm your nervous system are simiar to mine Sam, especially going out in nature and reading a book. As I can hear your voice saying them, it's added an extra layer of calm. Thank you x
