My Drum

Dearest One,

As a Shamanic Practitioner, I have over the past 25 years assisted folk in finding and working with their Power Animal.

This meditation, while short, is powerful. It takes you on a little journey inviting you to meet your power animal and to begin to understand its power and healing essence.

From a Shamanic perspective, everyone is gifted with a Power Animal at birth by the Creator/ Great Spirit. This is a spirit guide in the form of an animal. Sometimes you may receive and work with other animals during your life (for a particular reason or stage you are going through), however you will usually have 1 or 2 main spirit animal friends.

In traditional cultures Power Animals or Totem Animals are held in great esteem by both the clan/tribe and/or the individual. Once a Power Animal was known the person/tribe then had then to protect that animal in the physical world. This was part of the unspoken care and respect given to the animal. As the animal protected the person/tribe in the world of spirit, so the humans cared for them in the world of the flesh.

The Role of Spirit Animals and some stories to share…

  • They are there to protect and guard you in the spirit and physical realms. I remember going for an evening walk one night. I turned up a street that I had not walked before and felt slightly uneasy. Straight away I felt my Power Animal there beside me. I reached down and could feel their coat, their essence. I could feel them rub up against me. I could feel them walk beside me as though I was part of their family to protect.

I walked up that street more confidently from then on, feeling taller and more at ease.

  • They are there to heal and offer comfort. When in pain - physical, mental or emotional - you can call on your Power Animal to give you deep healing and comfort. I have personally asked my power animal to help heal many a pain. I have sat in their presence and felt them lick my pain away, felt them curl up around me to keep me warm, felt them soothe me while I have been in emotional and mental pain.

  • They guide you as you travel into different realms of consciousness - both in your day and night-time dreams, and in your meditations. One of the most important rules when doing a Shamanic Journey is to always travel with a spirit guide. This guide, whether in human or animal form, will take you where you need to go and bring you back safely into this time and space. Reminding you why you chose to travel in the first place and helping you to return with wisdom and empowerment into this consciousness.

  • They remind us of our innate essence. Each animal offers particular qualities and gifts. Sometimes these qualities are something we already posses and have dimmed down for whatever reason, sometimes they are qualities we have yet to discover in ourselves.

Sometimes the Power Animal that comes is an animal that we may fear. I remember once doing a Power Animal Retrieval for a young man and the animal that came back was Grandmother Spider. While he was very grateful for such a sacred ceremony and ritual he disclosed that he was very scared of spiders. We spoke at length about the qualities of this particular spider that came back. It wove its web and sat in the centre of it. It spun its web with such beauty and precision. We spoke of creativity. We spoke of sitting in the middle of your own world without always having to give to others. We spoke of spinning dreams and learning to believe in your own dreams. We spoke of ancient wisdom lying there to be called upon when needed. A few months later the young man contacted me and said that beforehand he used to kill any spiders that came into his house; this day when he found one he caught it and took it outside.

  • Other ways to work with your Power Animal

When working with your power animal it is also important to consider what predator or prey they may have. As the saying goes: To know the Owl one needs to know the Mouse.

Before you look to the internet or books to find the properties of your Power Animal, sit and meditate with them first…let them tell you and explain to you why they have come to help you, guide you and heal you in this lifetime.

I am a Shamanic Practitioner and Spiritual Mentor. I am an earth based healer. A gardener and story teller of your soul. If you would like to book in for a 1-1 healing session with me do reach out. I would be honoured to hold sacred space for you.

Until next time,

Blessed be.

Yes! I will support you

I truly believe that meditation and healing words help foster positive mental health and well being. In a world that is balanced on a razors edge with so many different stresses - environmental, cultural and societal - having a space where you can come to pause, breathe out and relax is very important.1

Currently everyone gets the same privileges. I would like to keep it that way. Your financial patronage, your financial sponsorship, your financial support, will enable that to occur without me having to offer meditations to some and not others.

I will financially support you
