I SO love this series, Sam! Have you considered work as a death doula? Most of my work is with the already dead and I so deeply recognize the sacredness of the death doula. I feel like you would be so naturally gifted for this type of work.
Thank you Jenna. I feel that this series is one of the most important things I have written about. I feel that it is an unspoken topic on so many levels.
Re being a Death Doula - I feel that this is what I already do in my work...guiding folk through the little deaths of life so that they can live more fully in the now, and so that when the greater death comes they are more prepared. Also, when I sat with my Uncle I felt so at peace with this process...It came naturally..it felt so natural. Maybe without the "official training", I already am a Death Doula...
That is such a lovely way to go. To just be held by Mother Earth in your most natural form and beauty. May there be some way that you can fulfill this. In honour of all that you are. 💖
Sam, I am loving your series here on death. All these questions you ask and bring forward for us to consider are extremely important. Remembering back to a dear friend that died around 12 years ago. She took care of everything before she died. Her requests and wishes, payments (as much as she could), even getting rid of things before hand. I was so impressed with this. It gave space for the family to truly just be with the grieving process. I was asked to do her memorial. It ended up being a great service because of the person she was.
Another reason why I like this series, is well, death is my constant companion. We walk side by side. Death is real in every moment. So, why not take care of things when I can.
Much love to you Sam, Sending you many blessings of love...
Oh Julie! I love what you wrote here. What a gift your friend gave you all by completing as much of her requests, wishes and payments as she could...to allow you to just grieve and be in each moment of your grief is such a legacy and gift.
I too have Death as constant companion...to walk side by side...to appreciate life from Deaths eyes is to appreciate Joy too.
Thank you for enjoying my series...I have to say that I feel this has been one of the most important things I have written...I am very passionate about Death being honoured, and also about giving folks as much autonomy and say in that process (if possible!).
In honour of your beautiful soul and the blessings you gift unto the wider world. 💖

I have always wanted my body to go under a tree to decompose naturally to be a part of the ecosystem. I think that is not very realistic, though.
